This piece is truly one of a kind! Once a secretary-style bureau, it has been converted into a stylish bar stand suitable for meeting all of your hosting needs! Made of solid quarter-sawn oak and smartly attired in the darkest of greens, the top portion was converted into an open cubby for displaying bottles, glasses, and decanters, while the freshly-lined drawers can hold napkins, bottle openers, coasters, and other entertaining staples. This solid oak secretary-style bureau likely dates to around the turn of the century. It was a family piece that came from a historic home in Mt. Clemens.
First, a piece of plywood was attached to replace the missing back. The hand-carved door panel was removed along with the hinges and, once cleaned, sanded, and oiled, was mounted to the back of the upper section to create an open cubby. The casing was painted in a green so dark it approaches black -- Wise Owl Chalk Syntheis Paint in "Charleston Green" -- and sealed with Furniture Salve. The quarter-sawn drawer fronts were sanded and coated with tung oil and Furniure Salve, and the drawers were lined with a charcoal tweed fabric.
