This mirror holds a special place in our hearts. Made of solid quarter-sawn oak, its once pristine paint layers had long ago begun to flake off and crackle. Our initial plans were to strip it down bare wood, but removal of the solid-wood backing revealed a hand-written date of 1894! So we changed course: we gently removed some paint along its curved top to reveal the gorgeous wood grain underneath and even out the distressing, then sealed the whole thing with hemp oil furniture salve. This fella is huge, heavy, and handsome, with a naturally-distressed appearance that can only be earned.
