The origin of both items is unknown, although they each date to the late nineteenth century. The mirror was acquired in Florida, while the parlor table was acquired locally.
We love to preserve wood grain where ever possible, but this was an example of a time when a little bit of paint actually helps to accentuate the natural wood. Both pieces were painted with Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint in Antique Villa - a creamy, soft white - although the table top was given a wash rather than a full paint application. A bit of antiquing wax highlighted the details and created dimension, then both pieces were sealed with several coats of furniture salve for durability. [Artisan: ABP]
