This early 1900s gossip bench is subtly sophisticated. Gossip benches were commonplace during the early days of the telephone; they provided convenient seating for long conversations on the phone, which was placed on the tabletop. This one was purchased from a woman who received it after the passing of a friend, who in turn had inherited from her grandmother. There were four (!) layers of fabric on the seat pad, including the original upholstery! That was replaced with a delicately patterned fabric in creamy neutrals, which perfectly complements the rich mahogany stain. This gorgeous bench (that we've taken to calling "Dorothy," as it originated in Kansas) is ready to bring simple charm to your home.
