Pair of Rustic Vintage Dining Chairs

These solid wood chairs, originally purchased in Cleveland, Ohio, were passed down through the same family over four generations, and date back at least to the 1940s if not earlier. Initially stained dark, over the decades they were painted blue, then re-painted white.

Loose joints were tightened and the chairs were painstakingly cleaned with a concentrated cleaner to remove grime and dirt. The original seat padding was in tact but needed a boost, so it was cleaned, covered with a layer of raw cotton, then wrapped in cotton muslin to ensure freshness. Hemp oil was applied to seal and protect both the paint and the exposed wood. A classic houndstooth fabric in muted shades of camel and charcoal completes the look. [Artisan: Amanda]
